Kailua Beach Park, Oahu

Kailua Beach Park on Oahu is a stunning mile-long stretch of beach that is a popular destination amongst locals and tourists alike. The park’s pristine white-sand beach, its swaying palm trees and crystal blue waters offer a bit of something for everyone. A world-famous windsurfing spot, Kailua is dotted with surf shops that rent surf equipment and offer lessons for beginners. The waters are turbulent enough in the deep to offer seasoned surfers a challenging ride and calm enough near the beach for novice swimmers.

Beachgoers can also rent snorkeling gear or take a short kayaking trip out to nearby Flat Island, where they will find green sea turtles and other rare marine life. High tradewinds usually blow in from the northeast, causing the occasional Portugeues Man-of-War (jellyfish) and stinging limu (seaweed) to come up on shore. Trained lifeguards are regularly on duty at Kailua, but visitors are advised to obey all postings and warning signs and to closely monitor children.

Amenities such as picnic benches, a grassy pavilion and a concession stand make Kailua Beach an ideal spot for families to spend some relaxing time together. Other conveniences, such as restrooms, showers and phones are also readily available on site.
